and the AMC 8 tests. Prerequisite: 06-MathCounts/AMC or approved by Dr. Shen. This course is recommended for students in 7th, 8th grades. Students are recommended to take 08-MathCounts/AMC and 07-Algebra at the same time.

09-Pre-Calculus (DSM Academy) This is a one-year enhancement course for high school Pre-Calculus. Topics include (two semesters) polynomial, rational and algebraic functions, trigonometry, trigonometric equations,identities, inverse trigonometric functions, complex numbers, exponential forms of complex numbers, De Moivre’s Theorem, vectors, polar equations, parametric equations, dot and cross product, conic sections, probability, statistics and matrices. 05-Algebra (DSM Academy) 5th graders.This is a one-year enhancement course recommended for students in 5th grade. Topics (two semesters) include fraction, operations of fractions, equation of fractions, number relations, linear equation, linear inequality, mean median and mode, radical, exponent, divisibility, greatest common divisor, least common multiple, factorization of integers, change, percent, ratio, proportion, coordinate system, point, line segment, graph of a linear equation, Pythagorean theorem, area of triangle, parallelogram, distance formula, box-method, shoelace theorem. The course will also teach mental mathematics and will enhance student mental calculation skills in arithmetic. Chess Level 1 - Beginner Beginning Chess Students will learn how to solve and write down the moves chess puzzles of increasing complexity, and will learn the basics of chess, to include board arrangement, board memorization, movement of pieces, opening, middle game and closing. Students will learn how to write a game's notation for both their play and their opponent's play.

    Chess Level 2 - Intermediate Only students who have passed either Chess I or the Chess II entrance exam will be elligible to enroll. The exam will test a students knowledge of notation and basic rules of chess. Instructor will send out the exam with instructions about two weeks before class begins. 4:00-5:00 $180/year
